The Owners
Just two hours from Marrakech in the hippy beachside town called Essaouira, where Orson Welles based his Othello and Jimi Hendrix found inspiration for "Castles made of Sand", English couple Emma Wilson and Graham Carter bought a pair of magical 200-year-old Moroccan houses and named them – Castles in the Sand.
The pair transformed Dar Beida and Dar Emma into exquisitely designed, playful, boutique guest houses full of flea market finds, Moroccan artefacts, antiques and, most of all, charm.
Emma Wilson, a former interior designer who had shops in North London selling retro pieces of furniture and lighting, now lives in Morocco and runs Castles in the Sand, a bespoke guest house rental business.
Dedicated to making sure all of her clients are well looked after and have a memorable holiday in Essaouira, Emma personally greets every guest and walks them around the Medina showing them all of the Essaouira hot spots. She is at hand to help with pretty much anything during your stay to make your trip as easy and stress-free as possible!
The Properties
Built in the 18th century and constructed in traditional Moroccan style, the houses are located right in the centre of this beautiful little town.
The houses serve as an ideal base for exploring the local area, or simply as a means to relax and unwind in unique and magical settings. Lovingly restored and subtly decorated the rooms are spacious yet tranquil, providing a cool retreat from the outside world.
Dar Beida and Dar Emma are both available to rent all year round as your tranquil home away from home. Both properties are situated within Essaouira's fortified medina with the food markets pretty much on your door step and approximately a 10-minute walk to Essaouira's long sandy beach.
An information pack with a restaurant guide, information on Hammams, horse riding, quad biking and various other activities will be provided. Transfers to and from Marrakech can be arranged on request. Please contact us for more information.
